Students can freely navigate the condensed training materials and target specific content according to their needs. This course does not satisfy the requirements for UT for SNT-TC-1A, and there is no final exam. If you need to complete the full 40-hour Ultrasonic Testing course, please purchase the full version.

Course Overview

Our UT Level II Refresher, based on ASNT and ISO Standards topical outlines, is designed for technicians seeking to reinforce and update their manual Ultrasonic Testing (UT) knowledge and skills for 0-degree and angled-beam inspections. The course blends a self-assessment with targeted theory and interactive exercises. Participants will revisit essential instrument functions, probe and wedge fundamentals, calibration procedures, scanning patterns, and evaluation methods. Practical exercises reinforce key concepts, ensuring learners are confident in calibration, scanning, and data interpretation for a variety of inspection scenarios.

ASNT partners with PhaseX to deliver this course. Enrollment is completed through ASNT’s learning management system, while coursework takes place on PhaseX’s learning platform.

Upon Completion, Learners Will Have Covered:

  • Measurement fundamentals: units, reflection & transmission, sine wave, frequency, wavelength, longitudinal and shear waves, dB system
  • Material and discontinuity background: casting, rolling, extruding, forging, corrosion, associated discontinuities, welding methods (SMAW, SAW, GTAW, GMAW)
  • Instrumentation: digital instrument, pulser/receiver, digitizer, gain, piezoelectric crystal, frequency
  • Wedges and scanning hardware: wedge height calculation, angled wedge, scanner, encoder
  • Displays and data: A-Scan, B-Scan, C-Scan, full screen height/width, gates, legs
  • Wave behavior: transit time, PRF, wedge signal, beam, attenuation, near field, dead zone
