Technical Interviews require special interviewing techniques that are critical to finding and creating the most productive and effective employer/employee match. It is very important that hiring managers understand how to strategize a proper interview to determine a candidate’s soft skills, as well as technical proficiencies. Of equal importance, each prospective employee must strategize how to adequately and accurately impart why they, specifically, are the best candidate for the position.

Speaker: Karen Bruer

Karen Bruer has worked naval maintenance and ship repair for 33 years and in the inspection/quality arena for 28 of those years. Retired from U S Naval Service in 2008 after 23 years, she transitioned to private industry working as a Corporate Quality Manager. Her experience includes extensive nondestructive test inspection proficiency and quality control program management, encompassing complex and diversified engineering project research, procedure development, training, and documentation review.

She serves on the leadership committee and is a contributor for the Federal Working Group on Industrial Digital Radiography (FWGIDR) and is the Executive Secretary/Treasurer for the Defense Working Group on Nondestructive Testing (DWGNDT). She is also a technical contributor to NAVSEA NDT/QA Working Group; a contributing author to the Radiographic Classroom Training Book as well as the Radiographic Testing Handbook of the American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT); contributing author of SSPC Volume 1: Good Painting Practices, fifth edition; a voting member of ASTM E.07 Committee; an American Society of Quality (ASQ) member; a SAE-21 Counterfeit Materials Group member; and an American Society of Naval Engineers member.

Karen is an ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System implementation expert, responsible for the guidance of several organizations through the process to establish and achieve full registration and certification. In addition to her work with emerging NDT technologies and quality systems, she has performed extensive research and development with dry ice blasting (cryogenic cleaning) technology, successfully performing experiments and proof of process designs to introduce this existing technology to new applications in the maritime industry.She is an ASNT Level III and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational/Industrial Technology from Old Dominion University.
