Learn how aerial robotic systems are used for contact-based ultrasonic thickness measurements for field measurements. Drones can help the inspector perform automated exterior UT inspections of above-ground storage tank shells in hazardous locations, thus ensuring inspector safety on the job. This alleviates the need for current access methods including lifts, ladders, and ropework, which put the inspector at risk. This presentation invites you to get on board with aerial robotic systems that are forecast to grow exponentially in this decade and beyond.

Bob is the founder and CEO of Apellix™ which provides software-driven aerial robotics platforms to paint, coat, clean and test, in situations where until now, humans have done the work at physical risk to themselves. A serial entrepreneur, He is passionate about designing and creating software-controlled robotic systems that keep people out of harm’s way and save lives.

Bob is a versatile professional well-versed in robotic systems for nondestructive testing (NDT), inspection (NDI), and evaluation (NDE). A frequent presenter at conferences, he shares insights on robotics' role in these fields and authored a chapter on Robotic NDE Inspection for The Handbook of NDE 4.0 (Springer 2021). He holds a US FAA drone pilot certification and mentors entrepreneurs through Startup Quest’s “Startup Weekend by Google for Entrepreneurs,” while also volunteering at startup accelerators. Bob brings teaching experience from his former role as a college professor at Florida State University and pursues personal interests such as marathon running alongside his professional endeavors.
