Dive into underwater NDT with Joshua de Monbrun, the chair of ASNT’s Underwater NDT Committee!
In this webinar, Josh reviews current methods and technologies used in underwater NDT of infrastructure, different paths to becoming an underwater inspector, specialized equipment to increase inspector safety, and the future of the industry. A surprising variety of industries need qualified inspectors who are also capable divers, and this need is expected to grow. There is a pressing and widespread need for underwater NDT inspectors in infrastructure, including numerous inland projects. Underwater inspections are used for dams, docks, bridges, wharfs, marinas, above-ground storage tanks, and water towers. As Josh discusses, the United States has a growing number of structures that require inspection in the coming years, and the current interest and investment in infrastructure makes this a good time for inspectors to pursue the opportunities of underwater NDT.
Josh de Monbrun is a Commercial Diving Supervisor, Subsea Engineer, and ASNT NDT Level III in ET, MT, PT, RT, UT, VT and has an Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety Personnel certification in Gamma and X-Ray. He began his nondestructive testing career in the United States Air Force in 2001, after which he later commissioned into the United States ARMY. After separating from the military, he attended the Diver’s Institute of Technology’s civilian Commercial Diver’s training course in 2009 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering from the University of Rhode Island. For the past 13 years, Josh has focused his combined experience in engineering, diving, welding, and NDT, to integrate Advanced Service Inspection techniques for subsea and topside applications, including automation and robotics. Josh is a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council, holds API, NACE, and CWI certifications, serves as a member of the ASNT Certification Management Committee, and Chair of the ASNT Underwater NDT Committee.
