Course Overview

Advanced 40-hour online course designed for NDT professionals seeking competency in industrial Computed Tomography (CT), digital radiographic imaging principles, CT acquisition, reconstruction, image quality evaluation, and interpretation practices used in aerospace, defense, additive manufacturing, casting, metrology, semiconductor, and advanced manufacturing applications.

This course goes beyond theory to develop a practical understanding of CT system setup, projection acquisition, effective pixel pitch, spatial resolution, detector performance, image reconstruction, process control, post-reconstruction evaluation, and defect recognition. Participants will gain structured training aligned with industry expectations, real-world implementation practices, and Level 2 responsibilities.

Designed for NDT professionals, inspectors, engineers, and personnel involved in digital radiography, computed tomography, aerospace inspection, additive manufacturing inspection, and advanced manufacturing quality control.

This CT Level II training includes access to MRA Technique Development Studio™, where students build, modify, and troubleshoot DR/CR/CT techniques in a simulated production environment before touching live equipment.

This course meets the requirements of NAS-410, SNT-TC-1A, and EN 4179.

ASNT partners with MR Aerospace Inspections & Consulting to deliver this course. Enrollment is completed through ASNT’s learning management system, while coursework takes place on MR Aerospace Inspections & Consulting's learning platform.

Upon Completion, Learners Will Have Covered:

  • Fundamentals of computed tomography and digital radiographic imaging
  • CT system components, including DDA detectors, microfocus X-ray tubes, manipulators, shielding, and reconstruction software
  • Differences between DR, CR, and CT imaging methods
  • CT acquisition principles, including projections, 360° rotational scanning, sampling density, and technique development
  • Image quality parameters including contrast, SNR, CNR, noise, resolution, and contrast sensitivity
  • Advanced CT acquisition methods such as vortex scanning, mosaic scanning, and subpixel scanning
  • Post-reconstruction evaluation workflow, including slice navigation, volume validation, geometry accuracy, and defect evaluation
  • Interpretation principles and defect recognition in welds, castings, composites, and additive manufacturing components
  • Applicable standards, codes, procedures, specifications, and competency expectations for Level 2 digital radiography and CT personnel
