Course Overview

Traditional PTZ camera inspections can capture high-quality visuals, but they often fall short on traceability. When findings are not tied to an exact location, it becomes difficult to relocate defects, compare results over time, and build confidence in condition tracking. In this webinar, you will learn how modern robotic PTZ inspection systems integrate LiDAR-based mapping, 3D reconstruction, and precise positioning to create a 3D digital twin of the inspected asset. Each image and observation can be linked to its exact location in the model, enabling repeatable inspections, stronger documentation, and more reliable trending. We will break down the core technologies behind 3D-enabled inspection workflows, including robotic control, LiDAR scanning, IMU alignment, and closed-loop positioning, and explain how they improve efficiency, safety, and data quality. We will also look ahead to how these foundations support AI-assisted and predictive inspection workflows

Upon Completion, Learners Will Be Able To:

  • Identify limitations of conventional PTZ inspections (traceability, repeatability)
  • Explain digital twin concepts for inspection and defect localization
  • Understand key technologies (LiDAR, 3D mapping, IMU, robotic control)
  • Describe the workflow of 3D-enabled inspections
  • Recognize benefits in efficiency, safety, and data quality
  • Outline future trends including AI-assisted inspection
