Course Overview

Tube-to-tubesheet welds present unique inspection challenges where traditional nondestructive testing (NDT) methods such as visual testing (VT) and liquid penetrant testing (PT) may fall short. These limitations can leave critical flaws, such as micro-nonfusion, undetected during fabrication.

This webinar explores how ultrasonic phased array testing (PAUT), combined with innovative technique development, enables full-volume inspection of these complex welds. Attendees will gain insight into how customized PAUT approaches can improve flaw detection, enhance quality assurance, and address real-world inspection challenges.

Through practical examples, this session will highlight the importance of adapting NDT methods to specific applications and the role of procedure qualification in ensuring reliable and effective inspection outcomes.

Upon Completion, Learners Will Be Able To:

  • Understand the limitations of traditional NDT methods for tube-to-tubesheet weld inspections
  • Explain how PAUT enables full-volume inspection and improved flaw detection
  • Recognize common challenges, including detection of micro-nonfusion defects
  • Identify key considerations in developing and qualifying PAUT techniques
  • Apply insights to improve inspection strategies in fabrication environments
