Course Overview
Tensile Testing introduces the fundamentals of tensile testing and how the results are used to evaluate the mechanical properties of metals. The course explains how tensile tests are performed, how test specimens are prepared, and how test data is interpreted to determine key material properties.
Learners will gain an understanding of how stress and strain are calculated and how properties such as yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, and elastic modulus are determined from a stress–strain curve. The course also discusses factors that can influence tensile test results and how they affect interpretation of the data.
ASNT partners with Industrial Metallurgist, LLC to deliver this course. Enrollment is completed through ASNT’s learning management system, while coursework takes place on Industrial Metallurgists, LLC learning platform.
Upon Completion, Learners Will Have Covered:
- How tensile testing is performed
- How tensile test specimens are prepared
- How stress and strain are calculated during a tensile test
- How to determine yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, and elastic modulus from a stress–strain curve
- Factors that influence tensile test results and interpretation of test data
