Phased Array Level II Refresher

Training Icon eLearning

This course is targeted for learners who have already completed their Level II PAUT and are looking for an opportunity to have a refresher of the phased array content. Students can freely navigate the condensed training materials and target specific content according to their needs. This course does NOT satisfy the requirements for PAUT for SNT-TC-1A and there is no final exam. If you are needing to complete the 80-hour Phased Array course, please purchase the full version of the course here.

See below for additional information related to the differences between the Phased Array Level II (80-Hour) course and the Phased Array Level II Refresher.

Course is now available in English, French, and Spanish. Videos will be in English with all other course material in the selected language. Learners can alternate between languages within the course.

Course Overview

This course offers a comprehensive, structured approach to learning Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), combining theoretical instruction, interactive exercises, and a self-assessment to reinforce understanding. Learners begin with a diagnostic self-evaluation to benchmark their knowledge, followed by in-depth lessons covering everything from foundational concepts to advanced calibration techniques. Interactive exercises give learners hands-on practice with real-world applications in lamination checks, corrosion mapping, and weld testing, ensuring they leave the course with the knowledge and practical skills to apply PAUT effectively in the field.

Upon Completion, Learners Will Have Covered:

  • Core PAUT principles: phasing, steering, focusing, and wave production
  • Equipment components: probes, pulser/receivers, digitizers, filters, gain, multiplexing
  • Display formats and tools: A-Scan, L-Scan, S-Scan, C-Scan, gates, cursors, weld centerlines
  • Beam characteristics and signal processing: focused vs. unfocused, active/passive focusing, compression, resolution, filtering
  • System setup and parameters: element step size, angular range, focal distance, voltage, gain, PRF
  • Calibration techniques: velocity, wedge delay, TCG, encoder (both for 0° and angled beams)
  • Probe positioning and defect sizing using both 0° and angled beams
