Jim provides training, consulting, and Level III services in Electromagnetics Testing (ET) to a wide range of customers in multiple market sectors. He was introduced to NDT in 1975 when he received NDI training at Chanute AFB.  Upon departure from the Air Force he worked for both Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio and then the Electrical Power Research Institute in Charlotte, NC designing, investigating and implementing new ET systems and techniques.

He became an ASNT Level III in ET in 1984.  After helping to develop a new training program for EPRI leading to what is today the Qualified Data Analysis Program (QDA) Jim became the Training Manager and Principle Level III for Zetec, Inc.  He held that position for nineteen years prior to forming his own company.

Jim was the Chair of the Electromagnetics Committee for ASNT from 2001 to 2007 and has assisted ASNT and independent publishers multiple times by providing technical oversight and review of ET training materials.

Since 2007 Jim has specialized in designing and delivering on site eddy current and remote field training courses for the heat exchanger tubing inspection market including the qualification of data analysts.

ASNT Level III certificates held during the production of online NDT courses taught by Mr. Cox include Eddy Current Testing.

Course description

This course provides additional reinforcement and expansion of the fundamentals covered in the Level I course, and covers various surface scanning applications for the aerospace industry. Application examples shown are specific to the aerospace and general surface scanning markets.

Note: Not limited to the aerospace industry. It covers applications related to other industries as well.

The course addresses required training topics for Level II Eddy Current technicians.

More:
  • This training can be used to satisfy training recommendations for Eddy Current personnel as established by various codes, standards, and recommended practices.
  • Includes lesson summaries and glossaries designed to help students study and pass Eddy Current qualification exams.
  • Includes a training certificate issued upon successful completion of the course.
  • Additional reading references are recommended or required to supplement this course.

NOTE: Please note the contact hours being awarded for this course.  To meet the training requirements in SNT-TC-1A, CP-189, and NAS-410, the student must complete the eLearning course and the necessary practical lab/hands-on sessions. These lab sessions must be overseen and documented by a Level III to ensure the required training hours are fulfilled.
