Dr. Kyle Payne is a strategic talent development leader and ASNT NDT Level III with fifteen years of experience driving process improvement and behavior change through training, coaching, and consulting. He draws upon his experience managing quality in the structural steel industry – building high-quality structures that stand the test of time in any environment – to building high-performing and continually improving teams. As a coach and facilitator, Kyle has established a strong reputation for fostering a safe and productive environment for participants to find clarity and direction on their own terms.

As a researcher of organizational behavior, Kyle focuses on unethical behavior at work and examines the behaviors of “ethical followers” who have the courage to resist unethical behavior and call into question unethical thinking. He has published and frequently gives talks on unethical behavior and other topics of concern to organizations.

Kyle lives in Chicago with his partner Sid and their two cats Queso and Fundido. Outside of work, you’re most likely to find him visiting the Field Museum or the Art Institute, walking along Lake Michigan, or cheering on the Chicago Sky.

Course Overview
This comprehensive 24-hour course is designed for professionals aiming to achieve Level II qualifications in magnetic particle testing (MT). Combining theoretical instruction with hands-on lab exercises, this course ensures participants gain both conceptual knowledge and practical skills required for MT Level I & II technicians. By the conclusion of the program, participants will be equipped with knowledge and practical experience to advance their careers in nondestructive testing. This course is based on the ASNT Classroom Training Book materials, organized to follow the body of knowledge found in ANSI/ASNT CP-105 and meets the recommendations for training as described in SNT-TC-1A.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Understand the fundamental principles and capabilities of magnetic particle testing (MT) 
  • Explain the laws of magnetism and their applications in MT
  •  Identify types of discontinuities that can be detected using MT techniques 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of magnetization methods, including circular, longitudinal, and multidirectional magnetization 
  • Properly select and use MT equipment, including yokes, prods, coils, and wet/dry magnetic particles 
  • Execute test procedures in compliance with industry standards 
  • Interpret and evaluate indications to differentiate between relevant and non-relevant indications 
  • Apply demagnetization techniques and understand their significance in testing 
  • Ensure quality control and compliance with safety regulations
